A Word on Self-Love

 

What does it mean to love yourself?

Self-love is not inherently selfish, but it can be if it is not combined with discipline and a great love for others. Sadly, our current culture has twisted this concept.

 

Self-love is misdirected if it only aims to appease every personal desire of the flesh. This makes us slaves to our lower nature, constantly chasing after that which brings temporary pleasure.

 

We can show true love and compassion to ourselves by inviting God to dwell within us. When God dwells within us, we are empowered to share that love with others. When we share that love, God’s love is perfected in us.

 

True self-love is a gift we give to others.

 

Love is not simply an emotion or words of affection.

Love is expressed through actions that exhibit a true desire to care for the ultimate good of ourselves and others.
